Advancing the Greek Demo Site: NAMOR Partners Progress on Design and Implementation

On October 7, the NAMOR Project partners gathered for a productive video meeting with the Greek consortium members — ECOLOGIKI, the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), and the International Hellenic University. The discussion focused on the ongoing activities and the next steps toward the design and implementation of the Greek demonstration site.

The Greek demo site represents a key milestone in NAMOR’s mission to advance sustainable, decentralised wastewater treatment technologies. The system will explore innovative biological processes by enhancing microalgae–bacteria co-cultures through the use of a Moving Bed bioreactor configuration equipped with polymeric carriers.

This approach aims to:

  • Increase biomass retention and process stability,

  • Improve nutrient removal efficiency,

  • Strengthen the integration of microalgae–bacteria interactions,

  • Support circular and low-energy treatment solutions suitable for diverse communities.

The demo unit is planned to be installed at the Lagada Wastewater Treatment Plant in Northern Greece, where it will treat a combination of sewage and septic effluents. This real-world setting will allow NAMOR partners to evaluate system performance, optimise operational conditions, and validate the potential of hybrid bioreactors for decentralised wastewater treatment.

The consortium will continue to refine the engineering design, align operational requirements, and prepare for installation activities in the coming months.
