Meet NAMOR Partners: University of Almería (UAL)

What is your organisation’s role in the NAMOR project?

The University of Almería (UAL) contributes its experience and expertise in microalgae-based processes for wastewater treatment and resource recovery. Our role focuses on supporting the overall design of wastewater treatment systems, identifying the most appropriate technologies, and contributing to the operation and monitoring of the processes. In addition, UAL supports data management activities aimed at modelling and optimisation, helping to improve process performance and scalability within the NAMOR Project.

What do you expect to be the key benefits that the NAMOR project will deliver?

The NAMOR Project will demonstrate the potential of nature-based solutions for sustainable water management. One of the key benefits of the project is to show how these technologies can be flexible and adaptable to different environmental conditions and operational ranges. By validating their performance in real conditions, NAMOR will help demonstrate the benefits and reliability of these approaches, facilitating their wider adoption and implementation at commercial scale in water treatment and reuse systems across Europe.

How have the first months of the NAMOR project been for so far?

The first months of the NAMOR Project have been very productive for the University of Almería (UAL). During this period, we have focused on collaborating closely with the other partners and learning from their experience and technical approaches. We have also been collecting detailed information about the pilot facilities to be implemented and defining the overall operational schemes for each case study. Based on this information, we have started to develop a simulation tool that will allow us to analyse and optimise each case study separately, supporting the design and operation of the proposed solutions.
