NAMOR Project Strengthens International Collaboration on Algae-Based Water Solutions with Visit from Turkish Researchers

The NAMOR Project recently advanced its research and development efforts by hosting esteemed colleagues, Professors Riza and Fusun Akgul from Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in Turkey, for a focused collaborative visit. The meeting was centred on strengthening expertise in algae cultivation systems, a cornerstone of NAMOR’s innovative approach to urban water management.

The visit facilitated in-depth discussions on optimizing algae strains and cultivation techniques, drawing on the collective knowledge from several synergistic projects, including CRONUS HORIZON, FUELPHORIA, and the ParAqua EU COST Action. To connect theory with practical application, the delegation toured the EkoJanez spirulina production facility and the project’s own state-of-the-art Centre for Algal Technologies (CAT), providing a firsthand look at cutting-edge production and research facilities.

This international collaboration is vital to the core mission of the NAMOR Project, which aims to create a sustainable, resilient, and circular urban water cycle. The project’s pioneering technology is a hybrid system that combines the natural purification power of co-cultivated microalgae and bacteria with advanced membrane filtration.

What sets NAMOR apart is its commitment to smart, adaptive technology. The entire system is driven by a sophisticated Digital Twin, equipped with predictive analytics and a Decision Support System. This intelligent core monitors operations in real-time to optimize performance, maximize the recovery of valuable resources like nutrients from biomass, and ensure robust, energy-efficient operation across different climate zones.

By uniting international expertise with cutting-edge digital technology, the NAMOR project is not just treating water; it’s creating a blueprint for the adaptable, efficient, and intelligent urban waters of the future system.
