Partners from NAMOR participate to the AlgaEurope 2025

The NAMOR Project partners marked a significant milestone with a high-impact presence at the AlgaEurope 2025 congress. The participation signals a powerful start for the EU-funded project’s mission to transform the European urban water landscape through innovative, microalgae-based decentralized treatment systems.

For over a decade, AlgaEurope has stood as the premier global gathering for the algae biomass sector. Organized through the collaborative efforts of the European Algae Biomass Association (EABA) and DLG Markets Benelux, the 2025 edition in Riga brought together over 400 key players from more than 45 countries to explore the intersection of science, technology, and business.

Europe’s urban water systems are currently facing unprecedented pressure. A combination of climate variability, rapid urbanization, and aging, centralized infrastructure has created an urgent need for flexible, modular solutions.

The NAMOR project (A Novel compact and Advanced hybrid Microalgae-membrane photobioreactor Optimized for Retrofitting decentralized water and wastewater management systems) addresses this gap. With a consortium of 14 partners across Europe and beyond, NAMOR is developing a next-generation treatment platform that combines microalgae-bacteria co-cultivation with advanced membrane filtration. This modular “plug-and-play” system is designed to either retrofit existing infrastructure or function as a standalone decentralized unit.

The NAMOR partners were active across the conference, engaging in scientific exchanges and networking with industry leaders to foster the synergies necessary for large-scale adoption of algae technologies. By recovering nutrients, water, and energy, the NAMOR platform directly supports the EU’s transition toward a circular and resilient water cycle.

The success of AlgaEurope 2025 stems from the unique synergy between EABA, which acts as a catalyst for research and industrial capacity in the field of algae, and DLG Markets Benelux, a global leader in agrifood trade fairs and conferences. Their partnership provides the critical infrastructure needed for projects like NAMOR to bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and industrial application.[1]

As the consortium looks back on a successful 2025 congress, preparations are already underway for AlgaEurope 2026, where the NAMOR project expects to share early results from its pilot applications in Greece, Slovenia, and Finland.
